Beta update: drawing on the board, and a tactic book you can read

Beta testing opened on Friday 28 August, and this is the first batch of changes since. All of it is live now, and most of it came out of what testers sent us over the first weekend. You can check out the video of the changes from YouTube - https://youtu.be/ICzbOp-LKec Drawing on the tactical board The board could place cones and measure distances, but it could not outline a space or write a word on it. Areas and Text can be found from the Objects drawer. Areas gives a circle, a rectangle or a triangle drawn by dragging, and a triangle points wherever the drag started, so it can face any direction. Text places a label in one of three sizes; clearing the text removes the label. Every area and label carries a visibility of its own: on all phases, or on the single phase being recorded. That can be done in Record mode, where the phase can be chosen. The End view now draws every phase's areas and labels, the way it already stacks every phase's movement and passes. A pitch that gets out of the way A drill drawn over white lines, spots and goals is hard to read, so a board can now hide its field markings and leave a bare surface to draw on. It is a switch on the board you already have, not a different board. Right-click — or long-press on a phone — opens a menu where you pressed. On bare pitch it offers a player, a coach or a goalkeeper for either team, the ball, and the training objects, and each one is placed exactly where the press landed. On a player it offers to give that player the ball, or to take it away. Football's 8v8 gained 2-4-1 and 3-3-1, both on the board and in the line-up. Objects, once each, and a way to turn them Directional objects used to appear twice in the picker — a goal and a horizontal goal, a barrier and a horizontal barrier, four hoop facings on a basketball court — and one placed the wrong way round could only be deleted and added again. Every object is now a single entry: place it, then turn it. Rotate selection turns a quarter turn per press, and a round handle above the selection drags to any angle, settling on every fifteen degrees. Several pieces turn together, around the centre of the group, and a turn that would carry them off the pitch lands them on it. The tactic book shows what is in it A row used to give a name, a game and a status, and nothing about the content. Every row now opens on a chevron into its description in full and its board drawn as the End view, clickable through every phase. Boards saved from inside an event are event recordings, and they no longer sit beneath a full table of templates at the bottom of the page. The folder is at the top of every tab, it says how many recordings are new, and it can be searched. In the drill dialog the board has a column of its own beside the description on a wide screen, and above it on a phone, so a long description no longer buries it. Practice plans The picture beside a drill was a projection of the board's first phase — coloured dots, no movement, no ball — and two drills were impossible to tell apart by it. It is now the same End composite the print sheet draws, with every phase's movement and passes overlaid and areas and labels included. Click it to step through the phases. Drill descriptions keep their line breaks, and a line beginning with "-" or "1." becomes a list. The template pickers open where they stand instead of replacing the list with what read as a second window, and picking a single drill can now be filtered by team. Fixes Applying one of your saved formations replaces the board instead of stacking the new one on top of the old; areas, texts, measurement lines and balls used to stay behind. The back arrow returns to the page you came from. From the help guide it used to walk forward into the guide again and loop there. A club's team list shows the sport in your own language instead of in English. Lighter pages Everything the app sends is compressed now, and nothing in the chain was compressing anything before. A practice plan carrying twelve drills with board drawings used to arrive as 189 KB and now arrives as 9 KB. Every page is lighter for it, and the difference is largest on the connection you actually have at the side of a pitch. And a blog Tactye.com has a Blog in its header now.
